Recently I received a greeting card from my credit card company. At first I was skeptical, I looked over the greeting card sized envelope and thought, “Is this just a new ploy to get me to open your marketing propaganda?” I took a chance and opened the envelope rather than send it directly to the shredder, where their junk mail typically ends up.
To my surprise it wasn’t propaganda or junk mail at all. It was a genuine and sincerely written Thank You note from the company’s Small Business Solutions Director. The note said “In our busy lives, we sometimes forget to thank the people who deserve it most- people like you.” It went on to say “Thank you for being one of our best customers, we truly appreciate having you with us.”
Signed with a P.S. to let them know if there is anything they can do for me, this personalized note from the director of a major credit card company had won me over. No longer did I feel like a generic address from a monolith marketing list. I was truly astonished- taken totally aback by this little card thanking me for my business.
So simple, yet so powerful, how a bit of unexpected sincerity and gratitude today can change your client’s perceptions about you. Greeting cards and personal notes can make your clients feel special- which in turn motivates them to buy more, refer more, and remain loyal.
